Description

Grind magical creatures into sausages in this frantic inventory-management auto battler, set in the mystical land of Cincinnati, Ohio.

History

1820s

Charles Darwin - an avid beetle collector in his teens - had a friendly competition with his classmates to find the most beetles. One day, he found a beetle that was missing from his collection, and quickly picked it up in one hand. Then, he found another! Into the other hand it went. Finding a third beetle (and not having a free hand,) he popped one bug into his mouth. Unfortunately for Darwin, this last beetle let out a caustic liquid, causing him to not only spit out and lose it, but to also drop the others. He came back that day with no beetles.

1840s

In an article from The Times-Picayune in New Orleans, Louisiana, the city of Cincinnati, Ohio was first (in print, at least) referred to as "Porkopolis" - alongside a running tally of 160,000 hogs that met their end. Until 1885, Cincinnati was the undisputed pork-processing capital of the United States.

1870s

The folk song, "Dunderbeck's Machine," is first printed - it details a German man who invents a steam-powered sausage machine, then grows mad with the power of his creation, turning rats, cats, and eventually himself into a sausage.

2019-Present

Work begins on a game concept titled Dunderbeck, inspired by Darwin's beetle story, Cincinnati's meat processing history, and the folk song that it shares a name with. Initial builds include a dungeon crawler, a realtime factory simulation, and a minigame collection. In 2023, the current game design is decided upon, inspired more directly by the Darwin story. In July of 2025, the demo was released to the public.
